Boston

Last Sunday at this time, I was landing in Boston! Here it is this Sunday and I am back into my normal routine.  Travel is crazy like that! How can I go so far away in one day?  Air travel (even though I work for a large airplane company) just blows my mind and I think I love it too.

The reason I went to Boston was for a conference. I booked my travel intentionally though to have an extra day to see the town. I did just that - Freedom Trail, Little Italy, historical monuments...I saw them all. The last day I had all afternoon too for a little window shopping but mostly I just relaxed in a coffee shop and a park. It was a great way to end my trip.

Please don't judge, but it's been quite a while since I have studied history. I didn't realize how historical Boston is and the events that occurred there that provided us with the freedoms we have today.

The park in the middle of the city was a great place to people watch.  I also loved walking Commonwealth Avenue. The Brownstones are both sides of the street were so amazing. It seemed like where everyone walked their dog. Of course, then I would miss Brooklyn.

Being away went fine for the kids. I had left them a very detailed daily to do list. I came home to a bit of a mess but nothing a morning at home couldn't remedy. It goes without saying too that kids are messy, mine even a little more. Brooklyn was SO excited to see me!  After a delayed flight, medical emergency on the flight (the gentleman sitting right in front of me!), it was midnight before I got home.

There is an area in Boston called Little Italy. I ended up eating Italian food there quite a bit. Both nights the same meal - bruschetta and salad, both nights delicious. It was interesting walking the streets of this little Italy. It truly seemed authentic.

I suppose the last thing to share would be the wonderful architecture. The churches were unbelievable. I really wanted to go inside but never did. I think it goes without saying, I was pretty smitten by this city and I'm not even a big city fan. Boston felt different. Being back home in the suburbs is a change of scenery for sure. It's funny, one day I see myself living in a tiny townhouse with minimal upkeep but the next day, I still consider my small farm dream.  It doesn't matter though, I'm here and here is where I need to be for now.

  1. I'm glad you had a great time! It looks like a wonderful city--I've only been there once, and not long enough to really explore. I love to visit a city and just really be in the middle of it all. Sounds like you did just that. I'm glad it all went smoothly with the kids. I'm sure that was a huge relief!

Does this thing still work?

Wow.  There was so much dust on this blog, I needed two rags to clean it off. Hello blog, how are you?  I know it’s been a while and yes, ...
