I'm just telling you right now - we are not hiking next weekend. This momma is a bit exhausted after this last weekend. Probably our hardest hike followed by a very full day of soccer in two opposite directions and times on Sunday. Although, if someone asked...they wouldn't have twist my arm too hard. We started this hike in heavy thick fog and ended up in glorious sunshine 2525 feet later. Truth: we were a bit disappointed of the view on top. Although just writing that and looking up at that last picture makes me reconsider. Perhaps it was quite beautiful after all it was just that our expectations were too high for the effort.
Tori, Brooklyn and the boys did fabulous. We were all sweating bullets at the temperature was quite warm the higher we climbed. I took my first fall...on flat ground. I tripped on a rock and bruised my ego big time. I need lessons in falling gracefully because I most certainly landed hard. I did not get physically hurt thank goodness.
I've also decided I need some better gear - new hiking boots and a better back pack. I see lots more hiking in my future and well, these are necessities now. I didn't write about that I got asked to be on a team to climb Mt. Rainier this summer. I had to say no. The family (particularly the young one) flat out said it was too dangerous. Well, lots of people do it every summer but there is some risk involved. So, for now - no Rainier for me. That's okay - there are plenty of other safer mountains to climb.

thank you Janet - your comment is so kind!
DeleteBruised your ego...I'm sorry but that made me smile. I fell at Lowe's months ago...and I bruised my ego AND my butt! For real! Glad you didn't get hurt...and glad you are listening to the voice that says "slow down". xoxo
ReplyDeleteI am in AWE. It's gorgeous. That makes our hills here look like nothing. It was slightly warmer and we had planned a hike for Sunday, but then K got sick, I have to say I was disappointed. Your photos are amazing. I feel like I'm there.
ReplyDeleteRainier would be amazing, but I have heard it is dangerous. Hope your bumps and bruises heal soon.
Loved your photos.. If you are thinking of boots ~ get em at REI. I learned the hard way. West Tiger. Great name ~ I'll be in photo number 3.
ReplyDeleteyeah, that picture turned out really good.
DeleteI like it too
Great pics! I wish I lived somewhere beautiful like that.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend trekking poles. I use mine all the time and absolutely hate when I forget them. They have saved my ass on more than one occassion.
ReplyDeleteha - I had to chuckle at that!
DeleteI see a lot people with trekking poles.
My husband's grandpa was a guide on Mt. Rainier, and at one time had the record for being the person to climb it the most times. I'm not sure if he still holds that record or not. I always think that I would like to try that big challenge someday too. But it also scares me. Like you, I say, "not yet". Your pictures are beautiful.
ReplyDeletethank you Dawn. Not yet is exactly what I am saying.
DeleteOh my gosh, Denise, these pics are gorgeous! Brooklyn looks so BIG!
ReplyDeleteMiss talking to you!!
