go: Mt. Rainier

Oh goodness. I'm sitting here this morning looking at these pictures strongly wishing I was heading out for the day on our next adventure. I guess that makes me a junkie. I still cannot get over the magnificent mountain that practically sits in my backyard. Truly, it is about an hour drive away to the Sunrise National park entrance.

We actually got a pretty late start this day. I had let the kids sleep in and knew we had nothing to rush home too. That was fine and all except for the long wait to get inside the park. It taught the kids patience and the wait was quickly forgotten once we got inside.

Pictures of course do not give this mountain justice. Sunrise is the highest point that can be reached by car - 6400 feet. Inside the park there are so many hiking trails - even nice short ones for every type of visitor. I really want to go back and soon. I think we picked the perfect weekend though because today is raining and sadly smoke from the fires in eastern Washington have made the views less than now.

Next I'll post my pictures from inside the park and our little picnic. Not sure what we are going to do today. There is always knitting and working on my new quilt. The kids get bored though watching me do said things. Don't get me started on teenagers right now. They have become a bit challenging this last week. No need to give that energy though. Right now they are all sleeping and that is a good thing.

*I actually just realized that the pictures of the mountain in the distance are of Mt. Adams seem from a viewpoint on the way to Sunrise :)  Pictures 3,4,5,8 are of Mt. Rainier.
