I'm catching up here. It is really Thanksgiving 2020, and the times have given me some extra time to bring this blog up to date :)
Last night we ate our first romaine from the garden. It has grown a lot in less than a month. We did not start these from seed so they had an advantage. It was delicious used as wraps. there is nothing better (well, maybe) then stepping outside the backdoor to gather ingredients for dinner.
Besides the romaine, we've been eating a lot of spinach. I am even trying to freeze some. I figure I can add it to smoothies or soups/stews in the fall and winter. I really don't like having produce go to waste so bags of spinach it is. I am hoping the freezer will be bursting with tomatoes too at some point. They are still warm and cozy upstairs. I need to ask the master gardener when they get to come outside.
We (okay, the gardener) ended up pulling up the wild flowers because we wanted to use that space for what he calls the crawly things. So far squash plants are in the ground and upstairs the cucumbers are waiting to go in next.
We've put in corn, twice. The birds seem to really like though so we are giving up. I did request that we cover the strawberries in netting so we can have a few berries here and there. Done.
Our backyard is really my dream. There is talk of a green house maybe next year. Something tells me we might be here longer than anticipated and that would be okay with me.
